The essence of fine wine is rooted in the unique terroir, where the grapes are raised. We are fortunate enough to have three of the top terroirs in the Eger wine growing region.
Since Eger is a cool climate region, similar to Burgundy or cooler climates of California, we planted varieties that feel very much at home, and are capable of producing world class wines. In addition to these international varietals which include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, we also proudly feature traditional Hungarian varietals, such as Furmint and Kékfrankos.
We farm these grapes using sustainable practices and every year we hand harvest these healthy and happy grapes which are being gently guided into fine wines.
Kovacs Nimrod Winery is situated in seven continuous cellars on the historic Verőszala street in the town of Eger. Back in the 18th century, there were hundreds and hundreds of wine press houses in Eger, very much like our own, which were erected above their respective cellars to handle onsite processing of the grapes. After the grape juice fermented, the wines were stored in barrels in the cool cellars below. Guided by this tradition, we continue to make wine in a similar way, but aided by 21st century technology.

Facing south-southwest, this steep-sloping site with unique exposure consists of limestone-laden soils, which contribute a mineral character to the wines.
Varietals: Furmint, Kékfrankos, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
Nyilasmár (Noszvaj), 8 hectares (20 acres) • GPS: 47.929657,20.499752
Blessed with a unique microclimate due to Lake Bogács, this site has soils rich in minerals, which result in distinctive, fine, fresh, and fruit-packed wines. Comprised of granite/volcanic soils, it has a south-southwesterly exposure.
Varietals: Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Kékfrankos.

Gently-sloping and interspersed with rocks, this site produces well-balanced and rounded wines.

MONOPOLE BATTONAGE CHARDONNAY 2013
Made in a classical Burgundian style, our 2013 Chardonnay Battonage expresses the unique terroir of our Nyilasmár and Nagyfai Estates (Monopole) with distinct minerality, fresh fruit flavours of pears and apples with light buttery and toasty oak notes. Aged on its lees in small French and Hungarian oak barrels, our Chardonnay has elegant freshness, vivid acids and long harmonious finish.
MONOPOLE RHAPSODY BULL’S BLOOD 2012
This 2012 vintage of the Monopole Rhapsody Bull’s Blood is exclusively sourced from the ripe fruits of our Nagyfai and Nyilasmár (Monopole) terroirs The vineyard Nyilasmár has thin, stony and tuff topsoil on strong south slope, giving body and fiery character to the wine. This highly concentrated wine is a blend of Kékfrankos, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah. Nice garnet red color, with aromas of cranberries, ripe cherries and spicy oak Similar flavors follow on the palete with a medium body, a medium long finish and soft tannins.
MONOPOLE SOUL SYRAH 2013
This 2013 vintage of Monopole Syrah blend is exclusively sourced from the ripe fruit of the grapes from KNW’s Nagyfai and Nyilasmár Monopole terroirs. The Nyilasmár vineyard has thin, stony and tuff based soil, facing south, whitch gives the wine spice and body, while the Nagyfai vineyard contains rocky brown forest soil, which adds rich and complex flavors. Our Syrah is the brilliant example a great vintage of 2013. This shows character of very ripes black cherry and earthy notes can be discovered combined with secondary flaouvers, such as plum, sweet tobacco and leather enchanting the character. This deep red wine has the silky tannins and a nice long finish.
The 2009 vintage of our flagship wine is a blend solely sourced from our Grand Cru Nagy Eged vineyard. It shows aromas of all spice and tobbacco that are complmented by concentrated flavors of plum liqueur, smoky raspberry and bramble. These flavors flow into an elegant, long, smooth balanced finish.
GRAND BLEU 2011
This 100% Kékfrankos wine comes from the top (500m) of our Grand Cru Nagy Eged vineyard. The dense color is followed with concentrated aromas of nutmeg, allspice, black cherry and tobacco. These aromas are continued on the palate by flavors of plum, black cherry and plain chocolate, all tied together with balanced acids and silky tannins. Our Grand Bleu rewards us with a long and very pleasant finish. This wine will age beautifully in the bottle for many years.
