Sabar is one of the most creative wineries for sure. Since most of their wines are sold in gastronomy – thus now these wines are not sold – and at the winery during their events – so again not sold in present situation – the only way for them to survive is online sale.
The Transporter you will surely welcome
Gábor Ádám, the owner and the mastermind of Sabar Wine Estate is featured in this advertisment. Now they sell all Sabar wines with 10% discount, and in case of ordering 6 or more bottles, delivery is free of charge within Hungary. Since Sabar hill is situated in Badacson wine region, the indigenious variety of Badacsony called Kéknyelű is of special importance for Sabar – a delicious, exciting, gracious white wine (see below). This year Sabar has released a bottle fermented sparkling wine from Kéknyelű – a real rarity! Sabar is also famous for Rhine Riesling (see Rhine Riesling 1229 and Rhine Riesling Leszner from vintage 2018, and also Rhine Riesling 1118 from 2017). Th estate also makes a rosé from Blaufrankisch and a red wine from Cabernet Franc.
Wine inspired guitar music
Robert Joseph renowned wine writer has just posted an interesting article on Meininger’s Wine Business about virtual tastings born in lockdown. We can come across these videos and online streams everywhere, but as the expert agrees with many critics – these are mostly extremely dull. To capture the attention of the audience you need more than a camera and some wine descriptions, and Sabar is again a remarkable example: they have given some Sabar wines to Máté Palásti guitar artist, and they have put online the outcome: good music you can enjoy with any wines, marketing is well wrapped.
Sabar Kéknyelű and grilled food
We are lucky – our lockdown weeks are passed in Badacsony wine region, not far from Sabar, therefore we can enjoy the pleasures of Sabar wines. Our little house on Saint George Mountain is not equipped with every facilities, thus we spend most of our time outside, and we cook on open fire. One day we had this delicious grilled plate with mushrooms, sausages, zucchini, tomatoes, onion, bacon. Sabar Kőmagas Kéknyelű 2017was fermented spontaneously in barrel, but the maturation was rather neutral, thus the wine is rich yet elegant. Lovely floral notes and complex, creamy palate – well suited the complex, still fresh meal! Our exile is that of the kings…
