Well, at first sight there is a problem with Wine Cellar escape room: you will have no motivation to escape… And indeed, the brand new WINESCAPE is a wine bar and escape room with wines that will surely make you stay.
When a wine writer changes side
Gábor Botond Bányai (Bányai is the only surname) is a fellow wine writer, we have known each other for about 15 years. I always knew he had great ideas, but this new wine bar is the best so far. Gábor has been the editor in chief of Borigo wine magazine for ages, and as a wine critic he obviously has a refined taste, consequently his wine list is exciting, I would even say sexy, it is hard to pick only a few wines from this list. Though he has experiences in winemaking as well, Jackfall and BGB wines from Villány belong to him. WINESCAPE has a good selection of Hungarian wines and a quite good bunch of Spanish wines, too (plus a Prosecco and a Champagne). About one third of the wines are available by the glass. The place is open from Tuesday to Sunday and mouth watering snacks are also available. And the best is that two escape rooms will open soon, one is the Wine Cellar and the other is a The Secret Bar with the theme of the American Prohibition. The later one is expected to be launched in September, while the Wine Cellar is due in a month. But, as I said, there is not much motivation to escape, we will show you 3 arguments to prove this.

Sabar Rhine Riesling and truffle spread
Sabar Wine House is a small winery with great wines – this is their slogan and it is true. Leszner Rhine Riesling 2018 is a single vineyard wine with so much character that it won’t be overshadowed by the strong aroma of truffle. WINESCAPE’S pate platter includes pork rilettes, onion chutney and pork liver terrine with truffle – it will be a heavenly match with the Riesling: “Made from the fruit harvested in Leszner vineyard on Szent György mountain. Complex Mediterranean citrus aromas on the nose: grapefruit, orange, lime together with a hint of peach and herbs. Very nice acid structure with some grams of residual sugar. Nice balance, long finish, great potential.”

Frittmann Cserszegi Fűszeres with cheese selection
Cserszegi Fűszeres is an indigenous Hungarian aromatic grape variety, but educated wine lovers are often too posh to taste it. But this grape can produce gracious, vibrant wines as well in good hands, and the Frittmann family has several good hands to create the best examples of the variety. WINESCAPE’s cheese platter includes Raclette, Pecorino, Gorgonzola, Hungarian thymes cheese, Hungarian soft cheese and jam – with a bottle of Frittmann Cserszegi it will surely make you light hearted. “Light lemon coloured wine with a scent of white flowers as well as pear, apple and white-fleshed peach in the fragrance. On the palate, fruity aromas fill the light body. Alcohol level is proportionately low, its medium level acid content creates impressions of citrus. Recommended to cheerful moments, even as a spritzer.”

“Hungarian tapas” with Eszterbauer Kadarka
We are not behind the Spanish when it comes to eating for hours. WINEASCAPE’s Hungarian tapas platter includes ham, paprika salamies, pork scratchings, Hungarian soft cheese and vegetables. Kadarka is an obvious choice with food with paprika, since this black grape also has spicy aromas. Eszterbauer is a family winery in Szekszárd wine region, where Kadarka is of special importance. ‘Sógor’ (‘Brother-in-law’) Kadarka 2018 is a stunning example of the variety: “This Kadarka is meant for every day with its primary aromas.
