A lovely region full of hills and mountains, the highest peak in Hungary can be found here as well. The climate is ideal for white grapes, mostly aromatic varieties gained popularity from Mátra. It is the second largest wine region of Hungary, and the largest among the mountain regions. It lies on the southern slopes of Mátra mountain. The region has a long history of grape growing: the first written evidence is from 1040, from the era of Saint Stephen, Hungary’s first king. Now we can find large companies with huge volumes whereas craft wineries are also flowering.

No wineries from the region have joined the hungarianwines.eu project yet.
