Badacsony regional tasting in Budapest

Every spring a grand tasting of Badacsony wine region awats wine conosseuires in New York. Well, to be precise, in New York Café in Budapest. The five star Boscolo hotel gives home to a historic café, which used to be the centre of literaly life in Hungary. This year the wine region will hold the 8th tasting, which will take place on 9 March. From 2–4 pm members of the wine trade will have opportunity to taste quietly, and from 4 pm till 7 pm the winelover public will take the floor. 40 wineries will pour about 150 wines, therefore visitors will have an unparralel chance to taste the wonders created in the unique mesoclimate of the volcanic witness mountains on the north of lake Balaton. Two masterclasses will be conducted, one by Dr Attila Fiáth about Hegybor (’Mountain Wine’), a category of Badacsony region, while the other tutored tasting will be conducted by András Wolf star chef, and it will match different types of home made bread and wines. Sabar Wine Estate was a big hit last year with their refreshing, fruity ethereal new release rosé wine, but Badacsony is first and foremost famous for its dry white wines, especially the single vineyard wines. Sabar Bács-hegy Olaszrizling 2017 was fermented spontaneously and matured for 7 months in lightly toasted, 500 litre Hungarian barrels. „Fruity wine with Quince and pear, accompanied by a hint of marzipan. The spiciness coming from barrel ageing makes the overall sensation more complex and gives the palate a pleasant smokiness, which is nicely retained in the aftertaste.” Some more wineries which will exhibit in March: Borbély Family Winery, Villa Sandahl, Csobánci Bormanufaktúra.
