1000-YEAR-OLD WINEMAKING TRADITION
With Christianity, French and Italian monks came to Eger, who bought with them high-quality vine growing and winemaking expertise.

We are fortunate enough to own three of the top terroirs in Eger wine region.
UNCOMPROMISING FOCUS ON QUALITY
In addition to top Hungarian varieties, such as Furmint and Kékfrankos, we also planted and organically farm burgundian and Northern Rhone varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah.
NAGY EGED
10 hectares – Grand Cru Facing south-southwest, this steep-sloping site with unique sun exposure consists of limestone-laden soils, which contributes to a one of a kind mineral character in the wines.
Varietals: Furmint, Kékfrankos and Syrah
NYILASMÁR
8 hectares – Premier Cru Blessed with a unique microclimate due to Lake Bogács, this site has soils rich in minerals, which result in distinctive, fresh and fruit-packed wines. Comprised of granite-tuff soils, it has a south-southwestern exposure.
Varietals: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Kékfrankos
NAGYFAI
12 hectares – Premier Cru Resting on a gently-sloping rich forest and tuff soil which interspersed with rocks, produces well-balanced, fruity and rounded wines.

THE WINERY
Kovács Nimrod Winery is situated in seven continuous cellars on the historic Verőszala Street in Eger.
Back in the 18th century, there were hundreds of wine press houses, similar to ours, which were erected above their representative cellars to handle the onsite processing of grapes.
After the grape juice had been fermented, wines were stored in barrels in the cool cellars below. Guided by this tradition, we continue to make our wines in a similar way, enhanced by 21st Century technology.

Kovács Nimród Battonage 2018
The iconic Burgundian international variety has found a welcoming home in our sunny, but cool, south-southwest located, mineral-rich granite, volcanic and stony-tuff soil in Noszvaj. The unique microclimate produces characterful, beautiful, fresh, fruity wines. Our Battonage (deliberately spelled this way) was barrel fermented and aged on fine lees to produce an elegant, fruit driven and silky textured wine.
Kovács Nimród Rhapsody Bikavér 2019
The unique voices of the Kékfrankos, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Blueberries, ripe, harmonious aromas and flavours of cherry and spicy oak merge into one in our Grand Superior blend from Nyilasmár and Nagyfai vineyards. Every sip is full of imagination and passion, like a real rhapsody.

Sour Syrah, the journey of the soul. When desire becomes touchable, it is like arriving at an unknown place, where there is a bit of R&B, a bit of Gospel, a bit of passion and a bit KNW Monopole Syrah, thus a bit of SOUL awaits us.
NJK 2016
Our flagship wine is made of traditional varietals (Kékfrankos and Syrah) from our Grand Cru Nagy-Eged Vineyard. It shows aromas of allspice and tobacco that are complimented by concentrated flavours of plum liqueur, smoky raspberry and bramble. These flavours flow into an elegant, long smooth balanced finish. The wine has full body on the palate, and is an accurate representation of an exciting European blend.
Kovács Nimród Grand Bleu 2017
This 100 % Kékfrankos wine comes from the top (500m) of our Grand Cru Nagy–Eged vineyard. The dense colour is followed by concentrated aromas of nutmeg, allspice, black cherry and tobacco. These aromas are continued on the palate with flavours of plum, black cherry and plain chocolate, all tied together with balanced acids and silky tannins. Our Grand Bleu rewards us with a long and very pleasant finish. This wine will age beautifully in the bottle for many years! Only 2397 bottles were made.
