The winery was founded by József Kreinbacher who acquired the first vineyards at Somló in 2002 and set the goal to create wines that express the character of the unique terroir.
By now the estate covers around 40 hectares cultivated organic and the winery also harvests grapes from another 20 hectares each year. The main grape varieties are local ones like Furmint, Juhfark, Welshriesling and Hárslevelű, completed by some Syrah.
A new venture started in 2011 to find their own style in Méthode Traditionnelle sparkling wines, as well, based on Furmint. A consultant cellar master from Champagne contributes to the teamwork and in 2016 they have already earned international recognition by two Gold medals, two Best in Class awards and Hungary’s first ever National Trophy on CSWWC.
Modern architecture gives a unique scenery for cellar visits where guests can explore the winemaking heritage of Somló and get to know all the steps how sparkling wines are born. The program is followed by wine and sparkling wine tasting.
Wine bar, bistro and design rooms
To the north of Lake Balaton, right at the foot of Somló Hill, the estate awaits guest with a stylish winebar and bistro, design rooms and wine programs.
Sitting in the wine bar you can not only experience the character of Somló wines but also enjoy the panoramic view of the rolling vine terraces and the basalt rock formations of the volcanic hill. The bistro offers seasonal menu and wine dinners, the design of the rooms keeps the contemporary architecture but also incorporates traditional values through the details. Urban and industrial styles are merged with rustic elements of the countryside.
Kreinbacher Furmint 2017
The aromas of Furmint are characteristic, pear and white flowers. Distinctive acidity, citrus flavours and some tropical fruits appear on the palate. The saltiness reflect the typical mineral character of Somló. Recommended for further ageing.
Kreinbacher Juhfark 2016
Citrus fruits, mineral tones of the Somló terroir and a touch of mint give the wine a cool character in the nose. Round, medium bodied Juhfark with intense fruitiness and refreshing acidity. Ripe fruits, and pear last in the aftertaste, and the salty aroma comes back on the palate, as well.
Kreinbacher Nagy-Somlói 2017
Tropical fruits in the nose with a hint of flowers. Mostly stone fruits and citrus fruits dominate on the palate, this is a fresh and vivid wine with quite high acidity. The finish reveals some saltiness and the bitterish almond aroma typical of the Olaszrizling variety.
Kreinbacher Öreg Tőkék Bora 2016
The wine is rich in the nose with stone fruits, zesty and shows nice balance. Quite round and creamy, while elegant at the same time. Further bottle ageing will reveal even more of its complex aromas. The remarkable mineral character, its richness and deep structure express the Somló terroir.
Kreinbacher Prestige Brut
Golden apple, lime and grapefruit on the nose. On the palate really full bodied, layered, and the beautiful harmony of the components signs that Kreinbacher Prestige Brut is the most outstanding wine of the estate. Wonderful perlage of refined, tiny bubbles and nice mousse pamper the tounge and the palate. Fresh and matured at the same time, firm acidity with an extremely long finish. More then remarkable sparkling wine for those who expect not an occasion, but a ‘prestige experience’.
