Malatinszky Kúria Organic Wine Estate
The Malatinszky Kúria works on 30 ha as an Organic estate.
Some of the experts said he is the „enfant terrible” in Villány. Malatinszky is an experimental winemaker who does not follow the traditions but think them over and create new synthesis. He is a conscious fan of the Villány – Siklós terroir, his viticulture philosophy is based upon the complexity of the local environment. Firmly he is known about his world class red wines and the crown among them, are the unfiltered Cabernet Franc made every year since 2002.
The region’s and his goal are the reds, but he brings down the house with his whites as well. In December 2010, Steven Spurrier (Decanter Chairman) selected the Serena 2009 as the Best Old World White. His stylish wines are getting to be more and more wellknown around the world and are selected to the wine list of Michelin-starred restaurants around Europe. He supplies wines to the Royal Family of Great Britain as well.
From 2005, he is among the 10 best winemaker of Central – and South-East Europe according to the Wine Report and his Kúria Cabernet Franc wines are listed at the TOP 10 reds every year. In 2010 November he was invited to the Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (Tour 100 TOP Wineries of the World) held in London. The son of a nobleman, Csaba Malatinszky, followed a unique career path to becoming a winemaker. He began as head sommelier at Budapest’s world-famous Gundel Restaurant and became the first internationally certified exponent of the profession in Hungary. Unusually, Csaba traveled to other wine regions especially Bordeaux where he learned about viticulture, winemaking and the art of blending. After spending time at some of the best châteaux in Médoc such as Château Pichon-Longueville Baron, Château Lynch-Bages and Château Cos D’Estournel; he founded his winery in Villány-Siklós. In 2009 he has rebased the winery and started to produce organic wines. In the following years he has realized this is the right way he has to follow without any doubt. Csaba Malatinszky is committed to the organic producing and the feedbacks from all over the world are verifying him. His choice to set the cabernet franc as his main grape turned out to be a successful decision. He believes in that the cabernet franc is the most prosperous grape in Villány and truly he has got most of his awards for cabernet franc.
Slightly closed at the beginning, but it opens in the air. Best with food. Fruitiness – black currant, cranberry –, nice acidity, elegant tannin structure, perfect balance. It reflects the terroir in a perfect way and it has a great aging potential.
Kúria Cabernet Franc 2008
Deep purple colour with blackish taint. Very intensive fruitiness on the nose with freshly crushed sour cherry and a little bit of vanilla from the barrel. On the palate it is most elegant, fresh and vibrating. Full of fruits and full bodied. Like on the nose, sour cherry, red currant can be tasted, and in the background some minerality and a touch of oak can be traced. Its tannins are ripened, the acidity is stunning. The wine is ready to drink. In its long aftertaste
fruitiness and the taste of the barrel is dominant as well.
Noblesse Cabernet Franc 2012
This wine perfectly reflects the vintage in its intensity and mouthfilling texture. Its dramatic deep, dark colour anticipates an outstanding tasting experience. Minerality takes the lead both on the nose and the palate accompanied by fruity notes after decanting. With dominant tannins this wine is a young, masculine one with great aging potential.
This wines takes our attention immediately with its layered, complex floral and fruity bouquet. On the palate it follows the nose and makes the experience complete. Vivid and exciting, never gets boring! It pampers us with its charming character.
A modern Bordeaux Blend. Deep ruby which turnes into black. Forest fruits, coffee and cedar on the nose. When tasting, one can obviously detect its high quality. Intense in every way, and its intensity is even increasing till it reaches the peak. Long lasting, entertaining wine with velvety texture and strength, power at the same time. A great example of a magnificent vintage.
