Taschner Winery and Sparkling Wine Cellar
In the farthest west corner of Hungary, where the surface of Lake Fertő (Neusiedler in German) turns the most severe winters into mild ones, vineyards of great quality have given fruit since the Roman times. This is the region of Sopron, where Kurt Taschner, one of the most wellknown winemakers of the region makes his wines and méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines.
The family has half German and half Hungarian roots, and the tradition of winemaking has passed from fathers to sons. Kurt cultivates vineyards with his father together, but the next generation is watching the „work of the parents” with great attention. No question: there will be someone to pass the estate over in the future.
The family vineyard is of 26 hectares, where mostly indigenous grapes are grown, but besides Kékfrankos, Zweigelt and Zöldveltelini (Grüner Veltliner) special grapes are grown as well. The slightly cool climate and the soil of lime stone is perfectly suitable for making sparkling wines. Taschner Brut is made only in exceptional vintage with basewine made of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier.
The wine house situated at the end of the city of Sopron hides a modern winery equipped with every modern accessories to make both still wine and sparkling wines. The real treasures of the winery, the single vineyard selection Kékfrankos wines made of fruits of old vines are matured here, in the dark deepness of the cellar.
Taschner Winery and Sparkling Wine Cellar awaits guests with warm hospitality. When tasting his stunning sparkling wines, refreshing, crispy whites or the more full bodied and complex red wines, we will realize how German preciseness and Hungarian passion can unite in one single glass.
