The wine region is situated on the south of Hungary. In its climate and regarding the character of the wines Tolna has a lot of similarities with the neighbouring Szekszárd wine region. Though grape growing has a long history in the region, even the Romans cultivated vineyard, the official wine region classification was given to Tolna only in 1998. New plantations have mainly international grape varieties. Quality winemaking is still not typical here, but hobby winemakers are passionate, and one of the most beutiful manifestations of this feature is the wine cellar village of Györköny.
The history of Tűzkő Estate dates back to the beginning of the 1990s when Hungary went through some groundbreaking political and economic changes. This transformation created real market conditions and opened up the county for foreign investors as well.
