Kovács Nimród Winery Tour
Nimrod Wines is the US arm of the Kovács Nimród Winery (KNW). KNW is situated in the Eger wine region of Hungary, which is located in Central Europe. The Eger region has a cooler climate, which is similar to that of Burgundy, Northern Rhone, or the Californian wine regions. KNW works with varietals that feel very much at home in this cooler climate and are capable of producing world class wines; these varietals include: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, but also traditional Hungarian varietals, such as Furmint and Kékfrankos. The grapes are grown using sustainable practices and every year these healthy and happy grapes are hand harvested and then gently guided into fine, hand-crafted wines.
Michael Liszkay and his son Ferenc, the owners of Nobilis Monoszloien Vineyards, established their Monoszló property on the Pangyér Slope, reminiscent of their prewar aristocratic Estate. It was developed with the desire to combine the best of traditional and modern wine making methods. The 10 hectares vineyard and its 350 year old wine cellar produce high quality red wines again after an absence of 150 years in the area. The wines produced here are well noted not only in Hungary but internationally as well. They regularly excel at prestigious contests, with gold medals to show for their dedication to their craft and passion for making fine wine.
The winery was founded and is owned by a young lady called Krisztina Csetvei. She was born near Szabadka in 1983 (Subotica, a Hungarian speaking town in Serbia) and moved to Budapest with her family when she was a child.
